I read blogs a lot better than I write blogs. This blog, KoJoDesigns, is right up my alley. Creative and thrifty. Two things I aspire to be. Today the blog talks about her family's New Years tradition. When she was young their parents recorded them talking about their year and asked them various questions about their future. Now with her own children she makes a book every year called 'Best of...' I am instituting this tradition I'm gonna try to do both, book and video recording. It will be so neat to replay the videos in years to come. This year best thing that happened to me... becoming Mommy to Amelia Kate. Best thing this year, best thing this lifetime.
Check out the blog its worth your time.

Nighttime is sleeptime
Watching Bringing home baby and a 'sleep specialist' visits the family to help set up a sleep routine for the new baby and the 2 yr old big sister. The sleep specialist suggests at 6-8 weeks to put the baby down when she is drowsy (or awake) so she can learn the skill of falling asleep without assistance. I have been trying it especially after the night time feedings since 4 weeks. It seems she is getting the hang of things. We also started a bedtime routine. It seems the right time. It may be a little early but it can't hurt and she seems to enjoy it. Around 7 she eats and Logan let's her sleep on his chest. She usually wakes up 9-9:30 we feed her give her a bath and then Logan reads to her. Currently the book of choice is The Hobbit. He lays her down and he reads till she falls asleep. The combo of warm bath and dads voice seems to knock her out. That first leg of the night she sleeps the longest. Before I thought routines were for toddlers. I thought infants always did want they want. But she seems to learn fast. Wonder if she thinks the same about me...

the beginning
Birth Day!
2:45 I get up to tinkle like I have been all night every night for a week. And just like it was described, Fluid was still trickling after I stopped peeing. Didn't think much of it till I went to lay back down and little gush in my pants. Went back to the bathroom changed pants got a poise. Woke up Logan. Still not really sure it was my water broken. Then more gushes as Logan made me giggle. We decided we wouldn't be able to go back to sleep but we were gonna try to wait for our 9:15 appt with Dr Stubbs.
3:30 We decide we should let ppl know. Logan text Sherry (my mother-in-law) first bc we decided if she was gonna drive down she should prob get in the car. She didnt answer text or call. So Logan called Woody. Sherry called shortly after. We decided to text Dad since moms phone was prob in the kitchen. Mom called shortly after.
We decide maybe we should call the dr since they told us to. Called around 4. Nurse Midwife called back said go straight to the hospital even though I was having no contractions.
I took my sweet sweet time taking my shower, getting dressed, gather stuff, packing snacks. Finally 5:10 we leave for the hospital. Stopped at moms to get our hospital bag.
Arrived at the hospital at 6:10.
In triage I was 3 cm 80% effaced +1 pelvic drop. Once in the labor room I was started on my antibiotic drip bc of the Group B Strep. After it was done and the doctor left, they let me off the monitors and IV.
Around 7-7:30 Dr Stubbs arrived. Checked again. I had a lot of pressure no pain. No improvement. E discussed the epi. I didnt want one. He said i may change my mind. I told him i had epis before he informed me that the anesthesiologist would probably deny me an epi bc of my history. He suggested Pitocin to speed things up. I refused. I didn't feel it was necessary yet, i was in no hurry. We took walks. Swayed. Bounced on the birth ball. Everything was good. Increase in pressure still no pain.
Lunchtime. Stubbs comes back, checks again no change. I decided to take a walk and start the Pitocin at 1:30 with my second dose of antibiotics. They started the Pitocin very slow.
3:20 nurse checks progress! 90% effaced 6 cm -1 pelvic drop
Logan lays down for nap. 45 minutes later my contractions are finally intense enough to cause me to react. And react I did at the height of the contraction I vomited. Nurses gave me Zofran. Better after my stomach was empty i felt better (maybe i shouldnt have snacked after all). Contractions continue to intensify. Logan wakes up.
4:00 I am offered for a half dose of pain medication to help relax between contractions. I accepted, it helped a lot.
4:20 I feel like bearing down. They call the doctor. I push her head to the surface before he arrives.
About 30 minutes of pushing. 8-10 hard pushes....
5:01 baby Amelia Kate was born.
doc stitches up my tear and cleans me up a bit. Amelia gets to lay with momma before getting weighed and measured and photographed by Nana (my mom) and Logan. Logan holds Amelia then Nana. After I'm all stitched up Papa Fox, Sara, and Bri come to visit. They let me rest for an hour and eat dinner then ship me up to Postpartum suite.
Phone calls made. Facebook updated with pictures and info.
Nana and Papa go have dinner. Get take out for Logan.
Jenn and Justin come to visit.

not the beginning
most people would say they became a momma when their child was born. for me that is not the case. i was born a momma. since i was quite young i knew i wanted to be a momma. middle school thru college i practiced being a momma by helping other mommas. by the time i got pregnant i pretty much had the general concept down. i worried about being pregnant and delivery but i thought once the baby came i was good. little did i know my knowledge of being a momma was very limited. sure i know how to take care of a child but being a momma is so much more.
when i got Amelia she knew very little of the world, when she got me i knew very little of the world of momma. now i am raising her to be a strong independent woman and she is raising me to be a mamma.
